In a letter to the UN Special Coordinator of the Peace Process in the Middle East, HRIA urges to hold the Israeli occupation authorities accountability for obstructing the holding of the Palestinian parliamentary elections and to exert pressure on them to remove these obstacles

HRIA urged the UN Special Coordinator of the Peace Process in the Middle East to hold the Israeli occupation authorities accountable for their violation of the rules of international law and their efforts to obstruct the holding of the Palestinian parliamentary elections next May in the Palestinian territories, including occupied Jerusalem. The last of these obstacles was the transfer of Mr. Najeh Dar Asi, representative of the Jerusalem is our Date list, to administrative detention for a period of 6 months, at the same time while the proceedings of the Security Council session were taking place. Moreover, the Israeli occupation authorities are still preventing any Palestinian activity in preparation for the elections in occupied Jerusalem and have not agreed to hold them there until this moment.
HRIA affirmed the necessity of overcoming the cases of warning and condemnation, and the necessity of taking practical and effective action to ensure the cessation of all restrictions imposed by the Israeli occupation authorities on the occupied Palestinian territories in general, and to ensure the removal of all Israeli obstacles that prevent the holding of Palestinian parliamentary elections, as these measures constitute a violation of the rules of International law and a denial of the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
